JOB SATISFACTION AMONG ACADEMICIANS

The academic fraternity may be compared with a deck of playing cards. Since the academics are engaged in the shaping of 'men of tomorrow today', they remain at the top of the pack, the 'Aces'. There can never be a perceptible difference in strategies employed between selling of merchandise and imparting of knowledge. Before the actual 'sale' of ideas or knowledge, a teacher has to go through the whole gamut of preparation or 'Spade' work so as to ensure that the 'cognitive' domain is well taken care of. In every approach, it should be his constant endeavour to hit his students in the 'Heart', which represents the 'affective' domain. As the teacher starts realising that each one of his students has a mind and a mouth, he should allow them to use both. As he starts giving importance to class room 'interaction' backed by frequent feedback, he will come to realize that he is dealing in 'Diamonds' precious enough for the posterity. The teacher tries to cushion his lectures with a 'Club', linking the unknown with the known. Teaching is a human experience and since all encounters within the class room centre around the 'Joker', the teacher has to prepare himself well in order to see that he has all the 'ingredients' to fit into any teacher-student learning situation.
In the midst of such situations prevailing, for academicians, productivity is a function of their eagerness to increase their personal status, and their intellectual pilgrimage, if we may say so, is dictated by external conditions. The credit goes to Mao Tse-tung (1967) who said 'external causes are the conditions of change and internal causes are the basis of change. In a suitable temperature an egg changes into a chicken, but no temperature can change a stone into a chicken because each has a different basis'. Achievement and recognition are both considered as intrinsic. However achievement is determined by performance, while recognition may have something to do with job satisfaction. It is to be recognised that job satisfaction levels can vary performance.

An examination of the problems of job satisfaction is called for since it is a question of the incumbent's satisfaction that is considered as essential to checkmate the diminishing returns of productivity. Merton (1949) makes a distinction between ' locals' and ' cosmopolitans' and sharing a parochial nature of the 'locals' and ecumenical nature of the 'cosmopolitans' , Gouldner (1957) goes on to add that while the 'locals' loyalty to employing organisation is ' high', they are 'low' on commitment to specialised role skills and are likely to use an inner reference group orientation. The 'cosmopolitans' on the other hand are those 'low' on loyalty to employing organisation, 'high' on commitment to specialised role skills and are likely to use outer reference group orientation.
It needs to be seen whether academicians can have access to rewards far beyond the levels of job satisfaction. In other words, independent of levels of satisfaction, productivity is their life breath and without it their survival will be in jeopardy. For them ‘contended mind is not a continual feast'. Unless academicians who are comparable to 'cosmopolitans' have an 'urge' to be seen as men of eminence, mere presence of 'high' level of job satisfaction will be of no avail. Viewed against the background of a condition in which 'high satisfaction' is prevalent with 'urge' conspicuous by its absence, it is discernable that there exists a 'paternalistic relationship' between the academicians and the management with their eyes not focused on productivity. Increased productivity with an 'urge' for 'outer group reference' contributes to the eminence of academicians.
The heads of the academicians, though small, need to carry all the news in order to stay put in their professional pursuits and thereby make a mark. Such of those who lag behind and fail to make a mark are sure to go 'unwept, unhonoured and unsung to the vile dust whence they sprung'.

KNOWLEDGE:ITS ROOTS AND FRUITS

Authors : Dr. HORNELL HART; Dr.C.S.RANGARAJAN
Published: May 17, 2009
Daniel Bell, known for his work on 'The Coming of Post Industrial Society'
makes a distinction between information and knowledge, since knowledge is equated with information. Knowledge is also equated with instruction, enlightenment, learning, practical skill and so on and it includes expertise. According to Daniel Bell, knowledge is an organised set of statement of facts or ideas presenting a reasoned judgment or an experimental result which is transmitted to others through some communication medium in ome systematic form. On the otherhand, information is 'data processing' in the broadest sense. Both knowledge and information are terms used interchangeably. If we take learning as equivalent to knowledge, such learning can take place when individuals interact with others and with their environment.

Individuals increase their understanding of reality by observing others and also by examining their results of their acts. If you observe others' acts and thereby learn on your own, or if you are made to observe others and thereby learn (i.e what is called as Contagion, seen as a positive means of social control). You also learn by 'trial and error'. It is others experience or your own experience that helps you to learn.
The following saying assumes relevancy:
Wise men learn by fools experience and
Fools, by their own experience.
As held by Hornell Hart (1964) mankind seeks knowledge by a variety of ways. The quest for reliable knowledge is the essence of 'scientific research'. Seeking knowledge both by scientific and non-scientific methods dates back to periods earlier than the dawn of history. In his book entitled
'Laboratory Manual for Introductory Sociology', Hornell Hart (1964) idetifies five rungs which represent five basic methods of knowledge seeking. The five rungs are (1) Intuition (2) Logic (3) Authority tradition
4) Introspection and (5) Empiricism. Empiricism which lies at the bottom of the rung help the seekers of knowledge to use eyes, ears, fingers and other sensory organs. What one gets through his senses proides the basis for test of turth. The following proverbs lend credence to the above:
"The proof of the pudding is in the eating of it";
" Seeing is believing".
Introspection, which is in the second rung from the bottom, involves observation of of one's own private experience. It includes such acts as recalling memory, feeling a liking or dislike for something, and noticing how one's own mind works. It also includes observing what happens in one's own dreams and using one's own imagination. The immediate test of truth under this method is what one observes inwardly.
Authority-Tradition, in the third rung of the ladder may also be called 'rung of transmitting information. Under this method, the test for acceptance of a given item is that some one on whom we repose confidence confides that it is true. Tradition includes the vast bulk of social heritage of knowledge and belief. On the otherhand, authority consists of transmitted information backed up by sanctions and pressures. It is the basis for the whole structure of civil and criminal law, founded upon the Constitutions, statutes and judicial precedents. Transmission of information begins at home and both the primary and secondary groups an individual comes in contact with are involved in this process.
Logic is the fourth rung in the ladder. Philosophers, lawyers, mathematicians and other theorists place emphasis on this method of finding and testing truth.
In the fifth rung lies Intuition. Intuition includes every sudden flash of insight. The immediate test of truth is merely one's own inner conviction.
If these are the ' roots' of knowledge, what are its ' fruits'?
August Comte, 'the father of sociology', said that the purpose of science is to understand, so as to predict, in order to control. Manuel Castells in his
work on 'The Rise of the Network Society, Volume I, Page 159) writes to say that the interaction between 'tacit knowledge' and 'explicit knowledge' serves as a source of innovation.
Finally, is may be said
'Action without knowledge is rootless ;
Knowledge without action is fruitless'.

WITHERING THE CHARM OF LIFE

Though little, your finger raised against in accusation, turns one's womb into a tomb. Mercilessly doing more mischief, your little finger makes the deadliest war weapons pale into insignificance. Though your mind is the launching pad, it facilitates your 'miniature missile' soar into greater heights with your message of constructive destruction. Such a mindless misadventure debilitates the mind and dilapidates the hopes of the hapless recipient of the 'most unkindest cut of all'. Situated as he is, he is confronted with the question 'what this day has in store' for him?. As he turns out of the bed, such a crucial question looms large before his mind's eye. While each morning shows the day as 'childhood shows the man', how is it that the turn of events prove themselves to be unpredictably elusive, he bemourns. We start the day, hoping against hope that we will be able to win rewards justifiably through struggle, but days wear out when we invariably accept caprices with resignation. Suspense-filled incidents, like mirages, make our struggle meaningless.
Is it a truism that 'all happiness that man can gain is not in pleasure, but in relief from pain'? Whether such a relief from pain one will get when he falls into deep slumber never again to come back to face the haunting question?

Insofar as TV channels and and News Papers are concerned, 'some are born great, some are made great and greatness is thrust upon some'. Though it is for NDTV to decide to which one of the categories it belongs, prevailing environs and conditions show NTDV in poor light.
Considered as 'immortal', great tamil poet Thiruvalluvar said 'to be balanced and not bend to any side like the Weighing beam is the beauty of the Great.(Kural:118)
Media do not appear to have come out of their 'slavish' mentality. Those whose 'soul' is so dead will make a departure from neutrality and confined as they are in a confused state of mind, confuse the common man for selfish ends.

When you sit for an examination with intent to secure a degree, the examiner has no choice but to go through your answer script whether there ie sense or not. In her eagerness to answer Mr Narendra Modi's accusation of the Congress party being an old one, Priyanka has paraded her ignorance and the mature voters will give zero mark for an immature prattle of priyanka.Sonia, Rahul and Priyanka should understand that 'congress party' is not a proprietary concern belonging to the 'trio'. It looks to me that they do not even know the ' a, b, c' of governance of the country. To expect them to lnow the 'x, y, z' of governance of the country looks like asking for the moon.

At a time when the law is taking its course in the matter of Varun Gandhi's alleged speeches against the muslims, there appears to be no reason for the Railway Minister Lallu Prasad Yadhv to speak at a tangent. His exercise looks like the one intended to appease the otherwise well informed muslim brethren. Unlike the likes of Lallu Prasad Yadhv, poverty knows no religion, region or language.Had the politicians been really serious and concerned about ensuring the 'greatest good for the greatest number of people' right from day one of India's Independence we would have not only eradicated poverty, but would not have had the opportunity to win Oscar award for a film like 'Slumdog millionaire'. which was woven around utter poverty. Like the Railways advertisement which runs as 'less luggage, more comfort, make travel a pleasure', politicians herenceforth should 'talk less, work more and make the country prosperous' in every sense of the term.

I bear no ill-will nor have I anything against Mrs Sonia Gandhi. The undeniable fact that remains is that she is the wife of Late Sri Rajiv Gandhi and daughter in law of Late Srimathi Indira Gandhi. The Country expects that she should continue to play the 'roleless role' she had played when both Rajiv and Indira Gandhi were alive.Shakespeare said 'what is Hecuba to him or he to Hecuba that he should weep for her'? Why should Sonia Gandhi take great interest in the internal affairs of this Country? Is it not a shame that this Great land of ours with a population in excess of over 100 crores is unable to identify one with not soul so dead to call this is my own, my native land.? Is it because we have fallen into 'irreparable amnesia', or suffer from 'intellectual deficiency'?

Of all the animals in the Zoo! by Dr.C.S.Rangarajan on 2009-03-26 23:04:24.01415+05:30
What were the major considerations and compelling reasons for Dr. Manmohan Singh to offer a ministerial berth to Rahul Gandhi.? Was it a polite way of showing his gratitude for having got elevated to a position which was beyond even his dreams? What special qualification does Rahul Gandhi possess for his being called upon to assume a position in the Government. Jayanthi Natarajan will be defenceless if it is shown to her that there is no dearth of youth in this country. The saying goes that 'of all the animals in the zoo, the monkey made a mockery of kangaroo'.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH US?

I wonder as to why people are not conscious of their
peculiarities and absurdities, affect to disguise what they
are and set up pretensions to what they are not.
Lord Byron in a similar vein observes, we do not
'feel we are not ,
What we have been ;and to deem
We are not what we should be; and to steel
The heart against itself; and to conceal,
With a proud caution, love or hate or aught-
Passion or feeling,purpose,grief or zeal,
Which is the tyrant spirit of our thought,
Is a stern task of soul! No matter, it is taught.'
A very great Saint of Tamilnadu Ramalingaswamigal
known as VALLALAR said that it is better not to
develop relationship with those whose thoughts (which
are inward) and speeches (which are outward) are incongruent.
Such a situation gives rise to a corresponding
life style. Eventhough, we have the ability to
'know a hawk from a handsaw', we ignore the
peculiarities and absurdities of others with whom
we interact. What for we ignore? It is because we
want to win rewards, or it is because we want not
to allow peace to go into pieces? Ultimately. we
make the right wrong and wrong right.

CAREERS AND THE WORK ORGANISATIONS.

A modern work organisation is unique in the sense that it becomes the focal point for a number of related occupations. The career lines of those working in these occupations do not conform to an uniform pattern. While occupations are inter-related, the careers of persons involved in a common work situation are often differentiated in terms of the varied processes at work in the work situation.< br/> Everett C.Hughes in his work on 'The Study of Occupations' in Merton,R.K et al (Eds) Sociology Today (1960) considers work situations as 'systems of interaction..... in which people of various occupational and lay capacities ...interact in sets of relationships that are social as well as technical'. The characteristics of careers are determined by the way in which the relevant occupations are related in a work situation. Hence, careers in the same Occupation may vary from one work situation to another. In this regard Everett C.Hughes points out the significance of careers in a work situation. For him, 'the career includes not only the process and sequence of learning the techniques of the occupation, but also the progressive perception of the whole system and of possible places in it and the accompanying changes in conceptions of the work and of one's self relation to it.
Basically the term ' career' implies movement over time through successive positions within an institutional system, which provides differential opportunities for the different occupations functioning in relative position within the system. A career normally implies upward movement in the institutional hierarchy available to an occupation in terms of income, status and responsibilities. But it may also imply acquisition of higher technical or professional skills, with the accompanying expectations of appropriate reward for the contribution, that superior skills can make toward the achievement of organisational goals.

Thus, career becomes an intrinsic aspect of the dynamics of a work organisation, and it has ramnifications that extend beyond the boundaries of a specific occupational group. Careers represent a dynamic element in the work process as occupations respond to changes in technology.
Thus, careers mirror the changes in the work processes. A study of careers is fascinating and rewarding.

THE YOUNG EAGLE

The 'YOUNG EAGLE' by Tom Reilly emphasises that action without knowledge is rootless and knowledge without action is fruitless. It is 'confidence' which 'begets confidence'.

The nest of young eagles hung on every word as the Master Eagle described his exploits. This was an important day for the eaglets. They were preparing for their first solo flight from the nest. It was the confidence builder many of them needed to fulfill their destiny.

"How far can I travel?" asked one of the eaglets.

"How far can you see?" responded the Master Eagle.

"How high can I fly?" quizzed the young eagle.

"How far can you stretch your wings?" asked the old eagle.

"How long can I fly?" the eaglet persisted.

"How far is the horizon?" the mentor rebounded.

"How much should I dream?" asked the eaglet.

"How much can you dream?" smiled the older, wiser eagle.

"How much can I achieve?" the young one continued.

"How much can you believe?" the old eagle challenged.

Frustrated by the banter, the young eagle demanded, "Why don't you answer my questions?"

"I did."

"Yes. But you answered them with questions."

"I answered them the best I could."

"But you're the Master Eagle. You're supposed to know everything. If you can't answer these questions, who can?"

"You." the old, wise eagle reassured.

"Me? How?" the young eagle was confused.

"No one can tell you how high to fly or how much to dream. It's different for each eagle. Only you and God know how far you'll go. No one on this earth knows your potential or what's in your heart. You alone will answer that. The only thing that limits you is the edge of your imagination."

The young eagle, puzzled by this, asked, "What should I do?"

"Look to the horizon, spread your wings, and fly."

SAMUEL ULLMAN ON 'YOUTH'.

like the controversy over the issue 'brain drain', 'generation gap' is yet another issue that engulfs the youth and creates an imaginary gulf. Samuel Ullman sets at rest the question as follows:
Youth is not a time of life; it is a state of mind; it is not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips and supple knees; it is a matter of the will, a quality of the imagination, a vigor of the emotions; it is the freshness of the deep springs of life.

Youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity of the appetite, for adventure over the love of ease. This often exists in a man of sixty more than a body of twenty. Nobody grows old merely by a number of years. We grow old by deserting our ideals.

Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul. Worry, fear, self-distrust bows the heart and turns the spirit back to dust.

Whether sixty or sixteen, there is in every human being's heart the lure of wonder, the unfailing child-like appetite of what's next, and the joy of the game of living. In the center of your heart and my heart there is a wireless station; so long as it receives messages of beauty, hope, cheer, courage and power from men and from the Infinite, so long are you young.

When the aerials are down, and your spirit is covered with snows of cynicism and the ice of pessimism, then you are grown old, even at twenty, but as long as your aerials are up, to catch the waves of optimism, there is hope you may die young at eighty.

SMALL IS BEAUTIFUL. BIG AND SMALL NEED TO GO TOGETHER. SMALL DOES NOT BECOME INSIGNIFICANT, NOR BIG, BY VIRTUE OF ITS BIGNESS GAIN GLORIFICATION. THE RUSTICS IN THE POEM PENNED BY OLIVER GOLDSMITH CAPTIONED ""VILLAGE SCHOOL MASTER" WERE WONDER STRUCK WHEN THE SCHOOL MASTER WAS ABLE TO TALK ON SUBJECTS OR SOLVE PROBLEMS FROM PIN TO PLANE. THEY EXCLAIMED 'HOW THE SMALL HEAD COULD CARRY ALL THE NEWS'. THOUGH THE WORLD IS VAST, WHAT IS NOT SMALL IN THIS WORLD?. EVENTHOUGH THE HUMAN FRAME IS NOT SO SIGNIFICANTLY BIG, THE HUMAN HEAD,THE BRAIN, THE HEART, EARS, THE EYES AND THE OBJECTS WE SEE THROUGH THE EYES ARE ALL SMALL. IS IT BECAUSE THE HEAD IS SMALL, WE REFRAIN FROM THINKING 'BIG'!. IS IT BECAUSE THE HEART IS SMALL, WE ARE NOT LARGE-HEARTED! THE FEET, WHICH ARE SMALL, GET INTO SHOES WHICH ARE ALSO SMALL. THE SAYING WHICH RUNS THAT 'THE WEARER KNOWS WHERE THE SHOE PINCHES' GOES TO SHOW THAT COMPASSION IS BOTH SMALL AS WELL AS A BIG POSSESSION OF THE HUMAN RACE. Yes! Nothing fades. It is the mind that makes a stone wall of prisons. It is again the mind that makes a heaven of hell or hell of heaven. If you say that it is love that defies time and lives beyond time, it is possible to raise the question whether it lives beyond one's life time. Love lives neither in icy dew, nor in paise due. A cupboard love is seldom true, but a love sincere found in few. Whether tulips fades or not, whether it spreads it fragrance or not, for TULIPS67, it must be remaining in a blossoming state spreading it fragrance in all directions. Any product bearing a stamp 'made in england', 'made in Italy' and so on draws the allegiance of the Indian masses. Indians, having not learnt lessons from history, are allowing themselves to be dictated by foreign agents. I remember to have read somewhere that India is destined to fall once again under the yoke of foreign rule. As Shakespeare said, 'there is divinity that shapes our ends'. For those who believe in the cyclical nature of events etc, history is bound to repeat itself.

Dear Mr KK, The Indian history and the system of education that prevailed in India remain shrouded in the foggy past. The Indian system of education would have given a title befitting my qualification other than Dr. Spitting venom both in speech and writing is in bad taste. It is one and only best way to reinforce one's arguments by expressing one's stand point in greater grace and without indecent haste. It is not too late to learn, for learning takes place from womb to tomb and from cradle to grave.

ROLELESS ROLES

D.RENGANAYAKI and Dr.C.S.RANGARAJAN

When employees continued tenure of service is ensured, then arises the question relating to ''intrinsic'' and ''extrinsic'' satisfaction in work.As Blauner in his work on ''Alienation and Freedom'' holds, it is security of employment which is seen as a condition precedent to employees'' loyalty and commitment. Seen against the backdrop of insecurity which is wrought into the job,one is appreciative of William Shakespeare''s observations which runs as follows: "You take my life when you do take the means whereby I live". The threat to the existence of sufficient jobs is identified as the most and immediate problem confronting the industrial society. Caught in the vortex of ever increasing technological and population trends, individuals, willing to work, are reduced to the level of not being able to find work. These ''twin threats'' are negatively correlated with work in the sense that both technological and population increase jointly and severally contribute to decrease in employment opportunities. Besides ''product life cycle'', technological obselecence as well as ''planned technological obselecenece'' lead to ''trained incapacity''. In otherwords, technology creates as many jobs as it weeds out. Another difficulty arises from managers'' preoccupations, among others, with the rules, conceived as a means becomes transformed into an end in itself. As instrumental value becomes a terminal value, it not only results in '' displacement of goals'', but also hasten the process of ''displacement'' of employees caught on account of their failure to fall in line with the organisational blue-print. These employees not only become ''rootless'', but are also pushed into ''roleless roles'' in the process of displacement leading to a ''crisis of identity''. Shakespeare views that ''the fault is not in our stars, but in ourselves, that we are underlings''.Lord Byron, on the otherhand laments ''must crimes be punished by other crimes, and greater criminals''. William Wordsworth is forthright when he comments ''earth is sick and Heaven is weary of the hollw words which States and Kingdoms utter when they speak of truth and justice''.
Oscar Wilde without mincing words, observes that ''in war, the strong make slave of the weak, and in peace the rich make slave of the poor. We must work to live, and they give such mean wages that we die. We toil for them all day long, and they heap up gold in their coffers, and our children fade away before their time, and the faces of those we love become hard and evil. We tread out the grapes and another drinks the wine. We sow the corn, and our own board is empty. We have chains, though no eye beholds them;and we are slaves, though men call us free''.

SOMNATH CHATTERJEE: GULLIVAR AMONG LILLIPUTANA.

The slogan 'workers of the world unite, you have nothing to lose but your chains' looks like an empty one meant for public consumption. The CPM expected Mr.Somnath Chatterjee to remain as a 'bonded labour' . CPM would not have 'instructed' the Gullivar among the Lilliputans to demit his office as Speaker without ulterior motives. His expulsion from the party was 'the most unkindest cut of all' for Mr Somnath seen against the backdrop of his contribution as a righteous politician. His decision to take to sanyas is unfortunate. Somnath not only exposed the 'snakes in suits', but subjected himself to the 'inner voice' we call conscience. His decision not to contest the forthcoming election is unfortunate, but a right one . Democracy's loss occasioned by the departure of stalwarts among parlimentarians due to the commissions and omissions of political parties mirrors absence of inner party democracy.

ARE POLITICIANS VIRTUES PERSONIFIED?

It is often said that black money runs a parallell government. It is also reported that the millionnaires in India increase by, say, about 19.2 percent annually. Since charity begins at home, the members of parliament and state legislatures, both past and present should subject themselves to an impartial raids by the Incometax Department aided by the CBI to show that even Ceasar's wife is not above suspicion. Candidates contesting elections proclaim that it is their 'public-orientation' that drives them to contest elections. Assuming that there is truth, absolute truth and no untruth in such claims, there should be a ceiling on their salaries and perquisites. The elites and most respected individuals in each constituency should form PEOPLE'S FORUM which should chalk out plans for the improvement of the localicy. Such of those candidates who agree to abide by the stipulations of the People's Forum alone should be elected. The Election Commission should introduce through a change in the existing law (1) the voters' right to recall the elected members and (2) make it mandatory for the elected members to publish every year their economic level during their tenure of membership. These measures, as and when become a reality, will ensure prices tumbling unaided by any fiscal policy.

WISE MEN LEARN BY FOOLS EXPERIENCE.......

We are taught the right and the wrong right from our childhood.'When the wind is southernly' some are in a position to 'know a hawk from a handsaw'. Some learn the 'right'ways by doing things in the 'wrong' way.In other words, 'wrong' teaches what is 'right'. Some are adept at making the wrong right and right wrong. But men in snakes suits, ignore the inner voice and therefore go about with their job without conscience. The learning 'journey' continues from cradle to grave, or from womb to tomb. However, the experiences gained make us strong and stand by us to lead a life in tune with societal expectations.Afterall, wisemen learn by fools experience and fools by their own experience.

'THE DASH' PREGNANT WITH MEANING

February 04

"THE DASH" by Linda Ellis

I read of a man who stood to speak
At the funeral of a friend
He referred to the dates on her tomb
From the beginning to the end.

He noted that first came her date of birth
And spoke the following date with tears,
But he said what mattered most of all
Was the dash between those years. (1934-1998)

For that dash represents all the time
That she spent alive on earth,
And now only those who loved her
Know what that little line is worth.

For it matters not,how much we own;
The cars,the house,the cash,
What matters is how we live and love
And how we spend our dash.

So think about this long and hard.
Are there things you'd like to change?
For you never know how much time is left,
That can still be rearranged.

If we could just slow down enough
To consider what's true and real,
And always try to understand
The way other people feel.

And be less quick to anger,
And show appreciation more
And love the people in our lives
Live we've never loved before.

And we treat each other with respect,
And more often wear a smile
Remembering that this special dash
Might only last a little while.

So, when you eulogy's being read
With your life's actions to rehash
Would you be proud of the things they say
About how you spent your dash?

It boils down to the fact that 'the heart that gives, gathers'.
Joy shared joy redoubled, and sorrow shared, sorrow halved.

DOUBT THOU THE SUN DOTH MOVE.......BUT NEVER DOUBT I LOVE

What Love Can Do?

The following poem goes to the credit of Robert Ward.
Mac Anderson (Founder of Successories), on going
through this wonderful poem writes to say that love
provides the music for life and fuel for the soul.

wish you the courage to be warm when the world would prefer that you be cool.
I wish you success sufficient to your needs;
I wish you failure to temper that success.
I wish you joy in all your days;
I wish you sadness so that you may better measure joy.
I wish you gladness to overbalance your grief.
I wish you humor and a twinkle in your eye.
I wish you glory and the strength to bear its burdens.
I wish you sunshine on your path and health to carry you on your journey.
I wish you peace -- in the world in which you live and in the smallest corner of you heart where truth is kept.
I wish you faith -- to help define your living and your life.
More I cannot wish you -- except perhaps love -- to make all the rest worthwhile.

RELIEF FROM PAIN IS PLEASURE

I was a student pursing sociology under-graduate and post graduate programme in the Annamalai University between 1957 and 1961. Through the courtesy of one Mr Hari Prasad, an Engineering student and his girl friend Ms. Nagarathinam, I came in contact with one Ms.Padma Latha of Mayavaram (Tanjore District). Padma Latha was studying in Music College. An upright, home-loving and home-bound hostelier, Padma Latha and I developed strong bonds with greater grace and without indecent haste. I used to meet her only in the girls hostel. By a quirk of fate, we lost touch with the other. Almost 50 years have rolled by. I am keen to see her and her family as a good friend would like to do. I am certain that the Almighty will stand by me and help me to establish contact with Ms. Padma Latha. I am now in U.S. Will be back in India in April 2009 and again return to U.S. in September 2009. Ms.Padma Latha or her family members can contact me at Door No M 43/4-7th Cross Street, Besant Nagar, Chennai 600090. Phone Numbers at my Chennai Residence: 24918935 and 24912844.
My name is Dr.C.S.Rangarajan. My father was an advocate at Kallakurichi. My e-mail ID is rangaranga43@aol.com. Can I look forward to receiving an e-mail with her Photo to identify and satisfy myself that my search has paid dividends? Since I am in the U.S., e-mail will be a best alternative option.
